Battery management is one of the daily challenges for anyone who has a modern cell phone. With electronic devices increasingly connected to each other, Bluetooth has also become more necessary to connect different devices.
There are those who prefer to keep Bluetooth always activated and those who choose to turn the feature on only when necessary, turning it off shortly afterwards with the argument of saving battery.
But does constantly turning your cell phone's Bluetooth on and off bring real gains to battery life? According to an analysis on the Android Authority website, the answer is that this makes little sense.
The publication tested this hypothesis in 2020 with five different cell phones: Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus, Huawei P40 Pro, ZTE Axon 11, Xiaomi Poco F2 Pro and Realme X3 Superzoom. The result showed that, on average, battery consumption was only 1.8% higher with Bluetooth on compared to the feature off.
With the natural advancement of technology and the improvement in the energy efficiency of cell phones, both in hardware and software, it is likely that current devices will be even more efficient in reducing the impact of Bluetooth on battery life.
The convenience of always keeping Bluetooth activated allows you to connect your cell phone to your car, headphones and wireless speakers more easily, without the need to constantly access the settings panel to activate and deactivate the function.
This practicality is highlighted by Apple itself on one of its customer support pages. The company notes that some of its products' most useful features are only available when Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are turned on.
"For the best experience on your iOS or iPadOS device, try keeping Wi-Fi and Bluetooth turned on," says Apple's support page.
